  1. "Generix" - The Tabby Import/Export Report System

  6. Generix creates reports containing information about the flow
  7. of echomail to and from your BBS.  This information can be
  8. used in a number of ways: 1) find out exactly how many
  9. messages are being delivered to your system, 2) find out
  10. in what echo areas and how many messages your users are
  11. contributing, 3) determine the relative activity of an echo
  12. area, 4) track the number of processing sessions occuring
  13. on any given day of the week.

  15. Generix - Components

  18. The Generix system contains two small Tabby-aware modules;
  19. Generix Import and Generix Export.  As you can imagine, the
  20. Generix Import module gathers information from Tabby's
  21. "Generic Import" file and the Generix Export module gathers
  22. information from Tabby's "Generic Export" file.  All of the
  23. resultant files and the Generix data files area written and stored
  24. in a folder named "Generix Files."

  26. Generix - Setup

  29. 1> Copy both Generix modules and the "Generix Files" folder into
  30.     the same folder containing TabbyNet.
  31.  
  32. 2> Edit ALL of your event modules (in Tabby Maint, in TabbyNet's
  33.     STR 500, and any other utility which processes your Tabby events)
  34.     to include both of the Generix modules' names.  You can rename the
  35.     Generix modules if you wish.

  37.     - Put the Generix Import module in your event lists right after
  38.       Tabby's "DeliverMail" module.
  39.     - Put the Generix Export module n your event lists right before
  40.       Tabby's "SendNews" module.

  42.        NOTE:  You will not get an accurate count if you do not
  43.                   run the Generix system during each processing
  44.                   period.  It is important to add the Generix modules
  45.                  to each of your Tabby events, inlcluding Crashmail.

  47.        NOTE NOTE:  You do not need to run both Generix modules
  48.                            if you only wish to track either messages
  49.                            imported or exported from your BBS.  But
  50.                            for an accurate understanding of your echomail
  51.                            and netmail traffic you should run both.

  53. Generix - Operation

  56. Generix reads the appropriate Generic Import/Export file when it is
  57. launched during a Tabby event.  It processes information and then
  58. writes its reports into the Generix Files folder.

  60. Generix - Reports

  63. Generix creates three reports - Session, Daily, and Weekly Report.
  64. The Session Report tells you how many messages were processed
  65. during each Tabby event session - normal mail hour and crash mail
  66. sessions.  The Daily Report gives you cumulative data for each
  67. day of the week for an entire week.  The Daily Report and the
  68. datafiles are reset during the first processing session each Sunday.
  69. The Weekly Report is also created during the first processing session
  70. on Sunday.  It contains the total messages processed for the previous
  71. week.  The Weekly Report's filename ends with the date and is saved
  72. from week to week.

  74. A log is also kept of the modules' operations which contain basic info
  75. which may be used to perform troubleshooting if necessary.

  80. To manually reset the Generix system, throw away all of the data
  81. files and reports (or move them out of the Generix Files folder).  It
  82. should not be necessary to do this, but you can if you wish.

  87. Upcoming additions to the Generix system will be the inclusion
  88. of a Monthly Report and tracking by username the number of
  89. messages entered by your users.  Also planned is the tracking of
  90. message activity from those who Point off your BBS.
